The Shepherd's Dog - Iron and Wine

11/02/2018

The Shepherd's Dog is Iron and Wine's third album, released September 5, 2007. It's folk rock, but I would say there's many elements of other genres sprinkled in. There's a nostalgic feel to the entire album, and it almost brings you back to the life you never had. My favorite track is Flightless Bird, American Mouth. I interpret the lyrics to be about having hope, innocence, and aspirations as a kid, but as you grow older the "American dream" crushes you into becoming an emotionless being, bound by deadlines, money problems, and overall hopelessness. It's relevant in today's society, and beside the lyrics, it's a really pretty song. This is probably my favorite album by Iron and Wine.
